Lake Attabad (also Gojal Lake ) is a lake in Gilgit-Baltistan , Pakistan . The lake was formed after a landslide on January 4, 2010 dammed the Hunza River . The dam formed by the landslide is located about 12 km upstream from the city of Karimabad .

In May 2010 the lake extended over a length of around 16 (or 21) km. Its volume was estimated at 407 million m³ (0.33 million  acre-feet ) or 450 to 500 million m³ of water.

When the lake was formed, the Karakoram Highway was flooded over a length of 25 km; part of the highway was also buried by the landslide. In September 2015, a bypass road with several tunnels was opened so that the Karakoram Highway, which was damaged by the landslide, could be used again.
