Atunis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Atunis ( Adonis ) was the Etruscan equivalent of the Greek god Adonis. The goddess Turan is considered his partner or consort . Similar to the Greek Adonis, Atunis was also often depicted with his partner. The goddess is often depicted older than the younger Atunis. Atunis, too, like the Greek Adonis, is killed by a boar , which attacks the young man in the woods while hunting and mortally wounds him. The excavated finds in the sanctuaries of Turan and Atunis show that the cult around Turan and Atunis was just as popular in Etruria as in Athens .
