Extracurricular youth work

Extracurricular youth work refers to youth work and youth education that usually take place outside of school during leisure time .

According to §11 KJHG , this youth education can also be school-related, i.e. take place in cooperation with the school. This involves courses in which young people are trained for various fields of activity at the school. The most common forms are: Orientation days , dispute arbitration training or mediation training and tutor training .

The central concern of extracurricular youth work today is the personal development of the growing person.

The goals are:

  • Competence to act as a result of initiated and promoted educational processes in absorbing, processing, reflecting and converting information into action activities.
  • Identity development is based on the task of accompanying young people in finding their role in society.
  • Social participation aims at making resources and opportunities available. The topic of social inclusion touches on social developments in order to give young people space and to enable them to take up space in our living environment.
  • Lobbying is the representative function of the youth worker to stand up for the needs and rights of young people at local and regional level.
