Auerhahn brewery

The Auerhahn Brewery was a beer brewery in Schlitz .

Foundation and company history

The founding of the Schlitzer Auerhahn Brewery is not clearly documented. It is first mentioned in 1585 as a brewery owned by the von Schlitz family in the Sandlofs district . From 1684 five breweries in Schlitz are documented. In 1721 the five breweries under Friedrich Wilhelm von Schlitz were merged into one larger brewery. The new brewery was built below the Schachtenburg on the Stadtberg.

Today the brewery building in Schlitz is no longer used as a brewery. Since 1998 the beers of the Auerhahn brewery have been brewed in the castle brewery in neighboring Lauterbach . In 2015, the Lauterbacher Burgbrauerei - Auerhahn Bräu Schlitz took over the Alsfeld brewery .

The Auerhahn Pils has already received several awards from the DLG .

The Schlitzer Altbierfest always takes place in the even years in July on the site of the former brewery in Schlitz.
