The Auesee in Wesel in North Rhine-Westphalia is a lake with an area of 1.81 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 17.5 meters that was created until the 1980s through gravel excavation.

It is located northwest of the city center and is bordered in the north and east by the districts of Flüren and Feldmark and in the south and west by the river Rhine . The Auesee is one of the cleanest lakes in North Rhine-Westphalia. While rare birds breed on the bird island in it, you can watch crabs in the lake .

In the summer months, the lake and its surroundings, especially the lido with its 60,000 square meter sunbathing lawns, is a popular tourist destination where windsurfing , sailing and other water sports are possible. The DLRG ensures safety in the bathing bay with a watch station in summer. A disused ship, the “Poseidon”, was sunk in the Ausee and is now used for wreck diving . A circular hiking trail around the lake was opened in 1980.

In 2020, the city council of Wesel decided to set up an adventure park on the Auesee. In addition to fruit trees, art and cultural gardens, the city administration also plans to build an observation tower.
