On the sea
The street on the sea is a street in the Lower Saxony city of Lüneburg .
location
The street Auf dem Meere runs from northeast to southwest west of the old town of Lüneburg. At the southeast end the street opens into Johann-Sebastian-Bach Platz and at the northeast end into Marienplatz . The street is crossed by Untere Ohlingerstraße , Neue Straße goes south from it. The numbering starts at the northeast corner on the northern side and goes back in a horseshoe shape.
history
The name probably comes from the term “in mare”. This is how the swampy area in a depression near Kalkberg was named in 1303.
