Loading dose

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As loading dose or loading dose ( engl. Loading dose ) is in the pharmacology understood that drug dose that a patient at the beginning of pharmacotherapy obtained. Usually the loading dose is higher than the maintenance dose of the drug. A therapeutically effective plasma level of the medicinal substance should be reached as quickly as possible by means of a relatively high loading dose . The subsequently lower maintenance dose is used to maintain the plasma concentration of the drug.
