August Lepper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Lepper was a mechanical engineering company in Bad Honnef . In 1960 it employed over 1000 people.

August Lepper († May 2, 1931) founded the company in 1906. Originally, he sold the fashionable AC systems and the corresponding discarded DC machines . After converting direct current systems to alternating current, he built a small factory in Bad Honnef, Lohfeld, which later grew into a large plant that built alternating current machines. In the 1930s, power transformers were built, and after the currency reform , large transformers up to 250,000,000 volt amperes were also built . When August Lepper died at the age of 56, his son Wilhelm Lepper took over the company.

In 1954 the form of the company changed to a GmbH . At the same time, the production of household appliances began, especially semi and fully automatic washing machines under the brand name Matura , which were mainly distributed by the Quelle mail order company .

In addition to a research department, the Lepper company had its own training workshops, a works library and its own canteen.

In 1984 the company had to file for bankruptcy. The Matura brand was henceforth used for washing machines manufactured by Bauknecht . The plants were of Asea Brown Boveri taken (ABB).
