Auguste Bernhardt ( 1825 - 1860 ) was a German theater actress .

Life

Bernhardt began his artistic career in 1844 at the Leipzig City Theater, guided by the court actor Heinrich Moritz . But she did not stay there long. Her next engagement was Breslau, where she was the first actress in "Judith" in Uriel Acosta . Then she always worked in the field of tragic lovers, enthusiastically acclaimed in every role, in Bremen and at the court theater in Schwerin, until in 1850 she was invited to a guest performance at the royal theater in Berlin. She was only to enjoy the favor of Berliners for just under three years, because this poetically gifted actress had to renounce her profession in the prime of her years. She fell hopelessly from a spinal cord disease, and for years completely paralyzed, she died in 1860.

According to the descriptions of the time, she was of great beauty, rich talent, but at the same time also wildly eccentric.
