The Augustinian Church is an originally Gothic monastery church, which was built around 1270 near the western city wall of Zurich . It is on Münzplatz near Bahnhofstrasse .

The Church of the Augustinian Hermits was converted into a secular workshop in the course of the Reformation and served as a mint and storage room. When Zurich's Catholics wanted to build their own church from 1841, the old church was remembered. Ferdinand Stadler , an aspiring architect with manual dexterity, was commissioned with the renovation in the neo-Gothic style.

The majority of this community rejected the resolutions of the First Vatican Council of 1870 and was expelled from the Catholic Church. From then on, the congregation called itself the Christian Catholic parish of Zurich and continues to use the Augustinian Church to this day.

The church was renovated by Max Kopp from 1958 to 1959 , in the process it was restored to a medieval structural condition, the neo-Gothic elements were removed. The crucifixion group, block altar and baptismal font were designed by Franz Fischer , the glass paintings in 1965 by August Wanner.

In the roof turret hang five bells that were cast in 1900 by the H. Rüetschi foundry . You heard in the tone sequence is one -ges 1 -as 1 -c 2 -it 2 .
