The Aul is the only preserved fortification tower of the city ​​wall of the city of Zwingenberg on Bergstrasse . The tower is a under monument protection standing cultural monument .

History

The two-storey tower was probably built from quarry stone in the 14th century . The pointed, covered with bricks conical roof has small pointed dormers with arched openings and at its peak a ball knob. On the south side of the tower there are two superimposed, arched entrances. The dates 1353 and 1532 are set in above the sandstone entrances.

To the south of the tower are the remains of the city wall, the opening of which was enlarged in 1818 by an archway. Previously there was only a small slip door at this point . The tower was last renovated in 1979. It is located on Auf dem Berg , right next to house number 77.
