Aurora Ball Dances

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aurora-Ball-Tänze is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op.87). The work was performed for the first time on February 18, 1851 in the Zum Sperl dance hall .

Remarks

The waltz was composed and premiered on the occasion of a festival of the Viennese artists' association Aurora . The artists' association was named after the Greek goddess of the dawn, Aurora. The naming was symbolic, because behind the term Dawn was connected the hope of a departure into a freer, more liberal time. Strauss was happy to work for this association. In the following years he wrote three more works for her, but no waltzes.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 22 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
