From the mountains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From the mountains is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 292). The work was first performed on October 2, 1864 in Pavlovsk , Russia.

Remarks

The waltz was composed in the summer of 1864 during the composer's annual summer trip to Russia. It is a pure concert waltz, even if it has not been declared as such. The first performance in Vienna took place on December 4, 1864 in the Volksgarten there. Surprisingly, Johann Strauss dedicated this waltz to one of his most stubborn critics, Eduard Hanslick , who accepted this dedication. The waltz itself is not one of the composer's great successes. It is more of an average work, but it is still performed occasionally.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 10 minutes and 41 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
