The selected sources for the German history of the Middle Ages ( Freiherr von Stein Memorial Edition / FSGA) are a Footprint t since 1955 continuous Edition series, the medieval sources in the original language and in German translation. The source text in the original language (mostly Latin) comes from the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH). In contrast to the MGH, however, the FSGA does not offer a critical annotation apparatus and therefore does not meet all the requirements for a critical edition . Hans-Werner Goetz rates the value of the FSGA for university teaching as very high, as more and more students do not have sufficient knowledge of Latin to only work with the MGH.

To date (as of December 2019) the FSGA comprises 51 volumes. The series is published by the Darmstadt-based wbg-Verlag .
