Trigger ( . Engl trigger) shall apply:
- in common usage an event that sets another event or a chain of events or several events in motion at the same time.
- in systems theory the basic definition of the term, see trigger (systems theory) .
- in photography a mechanism by which the shutter of the lens is opened to allow exposure of the film, see shutter release (photography) .
- the trigger of a gun.
- in behavioral biology signals that cause a certain instinctive behavior in the recipient, see key stimulus .
- in medicine, a stimulus that provokes, maintains or aggravates a disease or symptom, but without being the cause of the disease or the symptom.
- in psychology a stimulus that triggers a flashback .
