Exhibition of the Photographic Society 1904
The Photographic Society's exhibition took place from July 14 to October 15, 1904 in the Austrian Museum in Vienna and was organized by the Photographic Society .
Although previous exhibitions have already shone with remarkable exhibits and exhibitors of high format, with this exhibition the company succeeded for the first time in arousing the interest of the public on a larger scale.
Exhibition profile
This show showed the achievements of amateur and professional photography, which at that time were still subject to a strict separation, reproduction technology, scientific photography and the factories of photographic apparatus, optical instruments, chemicals and paper, which are now a considerable branch of industry.
The largest photograph in the world at the time was presented as a special sensation, a 12-meter-wide semicircular panorama of the Gulf of Naples, produced by the “New Photographical Society” in Steglitz-Berlin from a photograph of nature. The largest Austrian and German reproduction institutes, the kk Graphische Lehr und Versuchsanstalt , the kk Hof- und Staatsdruckerei , the Kunstanstalt J. Löwy , Viktor Angerer, Blechinger & Leykauf and C. Angerer & Göschl also took part as exhibitors .
Numerous members of the young Viennese photographic clubs, such as the amateur photography club, the photo club and the camera club, also had great appearances with their exhibits here.
In the scientific field, doctors and scientists showed, among other things, X-ray images, microphotographs and recordings in polarized light. The kk police direction in Vienna presented a collection that demonstrated the use of photography for police purposes.
This was the company's most successful exhibition so far, with almost 34,000 visitors, due to the increasing popularity of photography during this time.
