Autan (brand)

Autan is a repellent against mosquitoes and ticks to be applied to the skin. Autan is now a registered trademark of SC Johnson GmbH in Erkrath , which it acquired from Bayer AG in 2002 .

Autan was first launched on the German market in 1958. In the mid-1980s it was market leader in Italy , Austria , Greece , Brazil , Thailand , Australia , Spain and the United Kingdom, among others . Autan is now sold in various product forms (lotion, spray, cream) in around 70 countries.

The active ingredient DEET was used for over 40 years until it was largely replaced in 1998 by the active ingredient Icaridin (trade name Bayrepel) discovered by Bayer AG . DEET is still contained in “AUTAN Family Care Dry Spray” (15%, 150 g / kg) and “Autan Tropical Dry Spray” (25%, 250 g / kg). According to the manufacturer, all Autan products are suitable for people from the age of two.

While the product range "Autan Protection Plus" (formerly "Autan Active") contains 16–20% (160–200 g / kg) Icaridin (amount of active ingredient depends on the product form spray / pump spray), "Autan Family Care Pumpspray" (formerly " Autan Family ") as well as in" Autan Family Care Junior Gel "contain 10% (100 g / kg) icaridine and additionally diethyltoluamide (DEET). The product "Autan Tropical Pumpspray" contains 20% (200 g / kg) Icaridin.
