Automator is a program from Apple that comes standard with the Mac OS X operating system from version 10.4. Automator is used to run routine tasks automatically. In a certain way, the program takes on the functions of a robot , which is also made clear by the program symbol .

Before Automator, these processes had to be performed with AppleScript , which required at least elementary programming knowledge. On the basis of a simple and intuitive wizard , commands can be strung together with Automator and thus processed sequentially. A variety of programs provide standard actions that can be accessed in Automator.
