Bratislava cable car

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bratislava Automobile Ropeway from Volkswagen Slovakia in Bratislava is the only aerial ropeway in the world on which automobiles are regularly transported. It was built by the Austrian company Doppelmayr to transport the newly built VW automobiles from the assembly hall to the test track. The cable car is 450 meters long and crosses, among other things, a railway line. Mostly the Touareg and Polo models produced in Bratislava are transported. After six months of construction, the cable car was put into operation in 2003. Separate transport platforms have been developed for the transport of automobiles. By 2017, more than 3 million vehicles were transported by cable car.

The entire cable car is built in the Funitel system. Eight transport platforms are available for transport; these are transported at a speed of 2.8 m / s (approx. 10 km / h). The cable car has eight supports with a maximum height of 15 meters. A total of 67 vehicles can be transported per hour. Like the plant, the cable car is also designed for 24-hour operation. In order to be able to guarantee the availability of 98.5% agreed with VW, essential parts such as the drive and transmission were designed redundantly .
