Autothermal reaction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In industrial chemistry, reactions are referred to as autothermal in which an exothermic and an endothermic reaction run in parallel, so that the overall process is independent of external heat input. An important example is coal gasification in the production of synthesis gas , with glowing coal providing the energy for gasification.

The opposite term in industrial chemistry is the allothermal reaction , in which an energy supply is necessary.
