Paulista Avenue
The Avenida Paulista is one of the main streets of the city of São Paulo in Brazil . It is almost 3 kilometers long and lies on an elongated range of hills between the Bela Vista and Jardim Paulista quarters southwest of the center. It is accessed by an underground line and numerous buses.
Known as one of the city's most important financial centers and one of its most striking landmarks, the former avenue shows its importance as a center not only of business, but also of entertainment and culture. There are a large number of corporate offices, banks, consulates, hotels, hospitals such as the traditional Santa Catarina Hospital and scientific institutions such as the Pasteur Institute, as well as cultural institutions such as the Museu de Arte de São Paulo .
Only a few of the houses from the first development have survived.
The road is closed to traffic every Sunday and is then only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The focus is on culture and so the locals use this day for live performances, performances or to market their art.
