Awad al-Qarni
Awad al-Qarni ( Arabic عوض بن محمد القرني, DMG ʿAwaḍ b. Muḥammad al-Qarnī ; * 1957 in Asir Province ) is a Saudi Islamic theologian and preacher. He is a professor at a university in Abha and belongs to the group of opposition clergy who were arrested in September 2017. In May 2019, it was revealed that the Saudi public prosecutor's office had requested the death penalty for him; the execution should take place after the end of Ramadan. Apparently, however, there is no final judgment so far. The trial, in which preachers Salman al-Odah and Ali al-Omari are also indicted, is set to continue in December 2019. "The three accused are charged with terrorism and espionage, and they are also said to be supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood."
