Ali al-Omari

Ali al-Omari (also Ali bin Hamza Alomari ; Arabic علي بن حمزة العمري, DMG ʿAlī bin Ḥamza al-ʿUmarī , born February 11, 1973 in Jeddah ) is a Saudi Islamic scholar and television preacher .

Life

He comes from the Al-Makhwah region in southern Saudi Arabia. His father was a consul in several countries. Ali al-Omari's television and social media appearances, especially on Snapchat , have made him famous in the Arab world. He calls for more rights for women and stands up against violent extremism. He was chairman of 4Shbab television channel, founded in 2009, and is the executive director of Makkah College of Education .

He was arrested on September 9 or 10, 2017, as reported by the Committee for the Protection of Journalists . In May 2019, it was revealed that the Saudi public prosecutor's office had requested the death penalty for him; the execution should take place after the end of Ramadan. Apparently, however, there is no final judgment so far. The trial, in which preachers Salman al-Odah and Awad al-Qarni are also indicted, is set to continue in December 2019.
