Axel Andree

Axel Andree (* 1944 in Berlin ) is a German theater director , writer , painter and set designer.

Life

Axel Andree studied theater studies , art history and American studies at the Free University of Berlin .

During his work as a theater director and at major events, he met the chanson singer and actress Hildegard Knef in September 1979 . Their first joint project was a gala evening in the International Congress Center Berlin . A friendship quickly developed between the two. Shortly after the Knef-von Schell family moved, Andree also moved to Los Angeles (USA) in 1982 . On several transatlantic trips and also within the USA, he accompanied the Knef on their concert and promotional tours. He also co-wrote Knef's book Romy - Contemplation of a Life . In California he turned increasingly to painting, a talent that Knef inspired him. Axel Andree also worked as a set designer in the United States. In May 1995, six years after Hildegard Knef's return, Andree came back to Germany in his hometown Berlin. He lives and works here as a freelance author and painter to this day.

Andree became known through his biographical book Die Knef , which he published on the occasion of the artist's 75th birthday at the end of 2000. In it he describes experiences and stations from the life of Hildegard Knef, supplemented by quotations from her autobiographies and own experiences and conversations with her. One focus is on the American period, the 1950s and 1960s. In an edition of the rbb television evening, he gave private insights into his refuge in Berlin, which is also reminiscent of the Knef with its many utensils.
