Ayòbámi Adébáyò
Ayòbámi Adébáyò (born in Lagos in 1988 ) is a Nigerian writer. She is considered the "young literary voice of Nigeria". Her work focuses on the role of women in Nigerian society.
Life
Adébáyò grew up as the daughter of a doctor who also taught at the university, with her sister and sometimes her cousins. She studied creative writing and English literature with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Margaret Atwood . Today she is involved in various aid organizations.
Act
Adébáyò's debut novel, Stay with Me , which tells the story of a couple trying to have a child, became an instant worldwide hit and sold instantly in 13 countries. It addresses the pressure on couples in Nigerian society to have a child and also addresses sickle cell disease . In 2017 the novel was nominated for the Women's Prize for Fiction .
Ayobami Adebayo was in 2019 in the anthology New Daughters of Africa by Margaret Busby added that amassed the most important black writers of the last 200 years.
