The Bárány pointing attempt (after Róbert Bárány ) is a step in the clinical examination of the nervous system , with which the target movements of the upper extremities are checked as part of the coordination tests.

execution

The examinee points with his finger with his eyes open from above at the examiner's finger held in front of him. The test is then repeated with the eyes closed.

Results

The deviation in the vertical is pathological, it indicates a vestibular disorder, a disorder of the cerebellar side or the brain stem on the same side.
