The building of the former Selkmann bakery was a monument in the small town of Elsterwerda in southern Brandenburg in the Elbe-Elster district . It was located at Hauptstrasse 34 in the immediate vicinity of the town's market square.

history

The building was erected around 1800. It was one of the oldest surviving houses in downtown Elsterwerda. At the beginning of the last century it was increased again. The Emil Selkmann bakery was located here until around 1960. The bakery had been located in Elsterwerda since the middle of the 19th century and was one of the oldest in the Elsterwerda city area. After an apartment was rented until 1990, the now vacant building had been in the possession of a Kraupa entrepreneurial family since 1992 , who originally wanted to tear down the house and replace it with a new building.

However, after the State Monuments Office had toured the district , the building was placed under monument protection between 2000 and 2003. Since, according to the information provided by the owners, around 1.1 million euros would have been necessary to preserve the monument, they then abandoned their original plans for the time being and the building that dominated the city center fell into disrepair.

After recent attempts to demolish the ruin initially unsuccessful, demolition work on the building began on September 14, 2012 and was completed a short time later.
