Bärbel Völkel

Bärbel Völkel (* 1960 ) is professor of history and its didactics at the Ludwigsburg University of Education .

Career

After graduating from high school, Völkel studied history and Protestant theology for secondary level I teaching at the Siegen University from 1979 to 1983 . She completed her legal clerkship from 1984 to 1986 at the study seminar 1 in Dillenburg (Hesse). She then worked for many years as a teacher at secondary schools and comprehensive schools, as well as being a specialist in history and a senior seminar leader. In 2001 Völkel received his doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin and was then from 2003 to 2007 a teacher for special tasks at the University of Cologne . Since April 2007 she has been professor of history and its didactics at the Ludwigsburg University of Education.

Research priorities

Völkels research focuses on empirical research on historical constructions of meaning. She also looks at the importance of neurobiology and cognitive psychology for historical learning. University didactics and the legal processing of National Socialism in the Federal Republic of Germany from a historical didactic perspective is also the focus of the work. In the series of methods of historical learning , Völkel wrote the presentation on action-oriented history teaching.
