Gust roller

Shelf cloud

In meteorology, the terms gust roller and turtleneck refer to two different arcus- type cloud formations that occur in connection with gust fronts :

  • Shelf cloud - wedge-shaped cloud connected to the thunderstorm cell or cold front (usually meant with gust roller)
  • Roll Cloud - cylindrical cloud that has no connection with the original mother cloud (less common)
