Bad place

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As evil place bending of the bottom is Mittelelbe near the town of Lenzen in the northwest of Brandenburg referred.

origin of the name

The name was given to this section of the river by barges because of its treacherous bend, as the Elbe at this point bends almost at a right angle from northwest to southwest.

history

The section of the dike at Böse Ort is critical, as the water not only presses laterally but also frontally on the dyke areas during flooding. This was last shown during the Elbe floods in 2002 , when the dike had to be defended with great effort.

Since the mid-1990s, efforts have been made to relocate the dyke further away from the river in this section. This measure was carried out from September 12, 2005 to August 12, 2009. For this purpose, a new dike was built behind the existing dike and later the existing dyke line was broken through in six places. The new dyke line is 6.11 kilometers long and is 1097 meters shorter than the previous one. The area of the foreland of the dike increased by 420 hectares, of which 300 hectares are to be turned into riparian forest .
