Bundle day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a bundle day in which it is Switzerland school-free Saturdays before the big summer holidays referred to which the Bündeli (case) to be packed for the holidays.

Although in a broader sense the term generally refers to the last Saturday before the school holidays , the term “bundle day” is primarily used in calendars and by the media throughout Switzerland for the Saturday before the summer holidays , as it is the main travel day at that time.

Since the introduction of the five-day week in most public schools , the term has lost its meaning because all Saturdays have been school-free since then. Nevertheless, Bundleitag, the first day of the big vacation, is still very popular and is often referred to as an unofficial holiday because it is a day off from school but not a day off.

The term "Bundelitag" in its current meaning was originally only used in the Basel region , but has since spread to the rest of German-speaking Switzerland. The previously well-known meaning of “bundle day” was “day the service personnel change jobs”.
