The Bürger-Schützen-Verein Dinslaken 1461 e. V. is the oldest shooting club in the city of Dinslaken .

history

In the Middle Ages it was common for people with common interests to form guilds. These guilds were social associations whose members wanted to support each other and defend against attacks from outside.

Guilds

On November 1, 1461, the St. Jodokus Guild was founded. This was probably the first pure rifle guild in Dinslaken.

The St. Jodokus Guild is one of two guilds from which today's association emerged. The other guild is the St. George's Guild. For this guild, however, the year it was founded is unknown. The year the St. George Guild was founded probably coincides with the altar foundation of the same name in 1396. This guild was mentioned in documents from 1426. Basically, it can be assumed that a predecessor organization of the guilds already existed in Dinslaken when the city charter was granted in 1273. On the one hand, this was common at the time and, on the other hand, the city had to regularly assign men to military service.

What is certain is that the Jodokus guild was founded in 1461 and existed until 1806. In 1806 this united with the St. George's Guild to form the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit.

Bachelor Company

The Bachelor Company was founded on June 24, 1661. Only unmarried men could become members here.

Citizen-Schützen-Verein

In 1863 the development culminated in the merger and founding of the Bürger-Schützen-Verein Dinslaken. In addition to the active shooters of the Bachelor Company and the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, other citizens who had previously had no connection to the shooter also entered.

The First and especially the Second World War caused interruptions in the life of the association, but the association has existed in its current form as a registered association since 1863.
