Hellmuth Volkmann

Hellmuth Volkmann (born February 28, 1889 in Diedenhofen , Lorraine , † August 21, 1940 in Berlin-Gatow ) was a German officer , most recently General der Flieger in World War II .

Life

Volkmann served as an officer in the First World War . After the war he switched to the Reichswehr and worked as a commander in various units. Volkmann commanded the Condor Legion from November 1, 1937 to October 31, 1938 during the Spanish Civil War . In the Wehrmacht he led the 94th Infantry Division as commander in World War II .

On August 4, 1940, he was seriously injured in a traffic accident and died a good two weeks later in the hospital. He was buried in the Dahlem forest cemetery in Berlin. The grave is preserved.
