The charitable community foundation Hellweg Region , based in Soest, was founded on December 5, 2002 on the initiative of Volksbank Hellweg eG . The purpose is to support social projects in Westphalia that are in the interests of the region and its citizens, where public funds are not available.

Foundation purpose

The foundation supports both projects of non-profit associations and institutions as well as its own projects in the following areas:

  • Education
  • Youth and elderly care
  • Arts and Culture
  • Nature and environmental protection
  • Welfare
  • Science and Research
  • Civic engagement

From the beginning, the community foundation was conceived as an umbrella organization for other foundations. In the meantime, 17 independently operating trust foundations and 10 endowment funds from individual donors from the Soest district belong to the Hellweg Region Community Foundation.

Bodies

Board

The honorary board of directors manages the foundation and represents it externally.

Board of Trustees

The voluntary board of trustees as a supervisory body elects the board of directors and monitors its tasks.

Foundation meeting

The founder assembly consists of the founders of the Hellweg Region community foundation. All donors who have donated at least 300 euros are members there for ten years; those who donated 3,000 euros and more have lifelong voting rights on this body. The founders' meeting appoints the members of the board of trustees and discusses the annual report and activity report.

Managing directors

The day-to-day business is carried out part-time by full-time management.

Trust foundations / endowment funds

In order to improve the networking of non-profit activities in the region, the community foundation is also the umbrella organization for currently (as of 3/2020) 17 other foundations. The community foundation performs administrative and coordination work for these trust foundations.

In addition to the trust foundations, various foundation funds also belong to the community foundation.

Projects

  • My body belongs to me : elementary school students playfully learn to defend themselves against sexual violence.
  • Every child should be able to swim : Supplementary swimming lessons for primary school children who have additional special needs.
  • Generationsbrücke Germany : Children meet old people in need of care. Read, sing, tell and play together.
  • SeniorTrainer : Seniors are trained to professionally support projects - for more importance and quality of honorary positions.
  • TalentCompany : For a long-term local network for career orientation, students and entrepreneurs get a meeting place.
  • Book sponsor : With the purchase of children's and Young people's books encourage reading in elementary school children.

Awards

The foundation was awarded the seal of approval for community foundations by the Federal Association of German Foundations in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2020. In 2012, the Hellweg Region Community Foundation was awarded the Active Citizenship Award in the category mitMachen . In 2015, the community foundations were among the top ten community foundations. In July 2019, Stephanie Hackelsberger accepted the German Founder Prize on behalf of the Hellweg Region Community Foundation.
