The Office for Labor and Social Policy Studies BASS is a private research institute founded in Bern in 1992 . It sees itself as politically independent.

In the context of research projects and evaluations, BASS carries out analyzes, data evaluations and its own surveys in the areas of labor market , social security , family policy , health care , gender equality , migration and education .

Past and future effects of political programs are to be assessed using economic instruments such as cost-benefit analyzes . BASS also aims to present complex relationships in an understandable manner and to contribute to practical solutions.

The institute's staff are economists and social scientists . It played a key role in the Logib instrument for measuring wage discrimination based on gender, which is used in Switzerland and which has also been offered to German employers in an adapted form as Logib-D by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth as a voluntary survey instrument since 2009 becomes. It also exists in Luxembourg as Logib-Lux.
