The IMO group is a manufacturer of large roller bearings and ready-to-install gear system assemblies. For this purpose, solutions are offered in the solar technology division . The group of companies employs more than 500 people. In 2013 it generated sales of over 60 million euros. Its headquarters are in Gremsdorf in the Nuremberg metropolitan region .

history

The IMO Industrie-Momentenlager Stoll & Russ GmbH was founded in 1988 in Gremsdorf, near Höchstadt / Aisch . The main focus of activity was the development, production and sale of slewing rings, especially for use in wind turbines.

In 1994 the IMO drive unit was founded, which focused on the development, manufacture and sale of slewing drives. In 2001, the IMO drive unit moved into its own location in the Gremsdorf industrial park.

In 2004, IMO Industrie-Momentenlager Stoll & Russ GmbH changed its name to IMO Momentenlager GmbH.

IMO was named one of Bavaria's Best 50 companies in 2003, 2005 and 2007 . The award is given by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007 the company was listed in the top third of Europe's 500, the 500 fastest growing companies in Europe.

In 2007 the company was restructured again. The  IMO Holding GmbH now united the IMO Momentenlager GmbH & Co. KG , the IMO drives unit GmbH & Co. KG and the IMO Energy GmbH & Co. KG under one roof.

The group made a name for itself in 2009 when the weekend shifts were terminated in the wake of the financial crisis and 179 employees were laid off. The remaining employees took 20% -40% short-time work. Then about 1100 people were still employed at IMO.

In November 2011, more than 100 employees were laid off again. With the dismissal of 174 employees, the number of employees shrank from 924 to 750. In the course of these layoffs, IG Metall complained that the employees had not been informed in good time about the impending layoffs and that the social plan for the employees concerned was sometimes only after the dismissal had been announced. On March 12, 2013, from the IMO Momentenlager GmbH & Co. KG , the IMO GmbH & Co. KG . The IMO Energy GmbH & Co. KG no longer exists.

The next wave of layoffs followed in May 2013. Of the 650 employees who have now remained, 120 were made redundant.

Locations

The company has production sites in Germany (Gremsdorf) and as IMO USA Corp. in the USA (North Charleston, South Carolina) and a representative office in China (Beijing).
