Bulaq

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bulaq ( Arabic بولاق, DMG Būlāq ) is a district of the Egyptian capital Cairo .

It is on the east bank of the Nile , between the old Arab quarters and the river. The area was not built on until the 19th century. The first Egyptian museum , which the French Auguste Mariette had set up, was located there. The first printing house in Egypt was also located there . The proximity to the Nile offered the possibility of easily delivering something by boat, but on the other hand the district was also exposed to flooding.
