Neanders from the valley

Neander from the valley ( English B.C. for Before Christ ; German: BC ) is the name of a US newspaper comic by the American Johnny Hart . The comic takes place in the prehistoric age of the earth and describes the life of various "cavemen" who live in the fictional story at the same time as the dinosaurs.

The comic was one of the newspaper comics that had been published daily by its original inventor for the longest time since February 17, 1958. The comic is published by Creators Syndicate .

The comics appeared in Germany under the title Neander from the Valley . In the 1980s, the computer games BC's Quest for Tires and BC II: Grog's Revenge appeared .

Main characters of the comic

BC

A contemporary one would like to meet. Nice, a little naive.

Cute chick

She lives in a cave with Fat Broad. Cute Chick is drawn as a slim woman, whom all men in the comic find attractive. It is the exact opposite of Fat Broad. Cute Chick likes to chat with Fat Broad, mostly about men.

Curls

A master of the sarcastic joke. Among other things, he runs an "Advice" stand, where he gives appropriate advice.

Wiley

He is easy to recognize by his wooden leg, which he sometimes jokes about himself. Wiley is a great lover of poetry. He likes to use self-written poetry to comment on something. He also enjoys sports. He is the (unsuccessful) coach of a baseball and football team.

Peter

He is very business-minded, entrepreneurial and turns everything into money, which often meets with incomprehension. Peter sees himself as a genius and appears repeatedly as a speaker.

Clumsy

Clumsy (full name Clumsy Carp) wears the only glasses on the comic strip. He is as clumsy in everything as his English name suggests. For example, he fails in any sport because of his clumsiness. And he often pokes his head underwater to watch fish. It can also happen that the water freezes over.

grog

A superhumanly strong being, which resembles a bundle of fur. It is of unrecognizable gender and does not express itself very much, and if so in a very shortened English (and in the third person about itself) or only with a loud “grog”.

Fat Broad

Fat Broad (Eng. "Fat chick") lives with Cute Chick in a cave and likes to talk to her (mainly about diets and men). She gets upset easily, especially if she hears misogynistic jokes or references to her weight. She then proves to be strong and does not shy away from violence. Fat Broad struggles unsuccessfully with her excessive weight and hates snakes. Furthermore, she writes advice under the name Miss-Know-It-All (Eng. "Fräulein Allwissend").

Thor

A great inventor who cavorted in many areas (including the bike). He takes care of Wolf.

wolf

The only pet that appears regularly in the comic: He comes in late, on August 24, 2009, when all the other characters are already mature. Wolf starts out like a wolf, but quickly develops canine-like features. He belongs to Thor. However, it is questionable who domesticated whom.

John

An extremely slow turtle, which is why he is sometimes portrayed as a delivery person for the US Mail Service. He suffers from great fear of spiders .

Dookie

A bird that rides on John and also serves as a navigation aid. He would like to winter in the south, but he and John sometimes get lost on their travels. Dookie likes to make fun of how slow John is.

Award

In 1992 Neander from the valley received the Max and Moritz Prize for the best international comic strip.
