BACO carrier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BACO-Carrier ( BA rge CO ntainer-Carrier) or lighter carrier (ship) is a type of ship whose conception largely corresponds to the system of the container ship as well as the system of the barge carrier and therefore for the transport of all cargo Kind in barges and containers .

The basic idea that precedes the construction of this type of ship, however, is based on separating the hold from the drive unit. The barges are driven into a dock area enclosed by the actual hull and swam in and out via a corresponding stern opening or stern and bow opening using the floating dock method. The dock area can be closed watertight by gates or flaps or wickets.

The containers are driven on deck and - if necessary - picked up or set down with an on-board special crane. Bulky goods, structural parts, vehicles of all kinds, wood and pipes, among other things, can be driven on the container deck.
