The BAG bookseller accounting company is a service provider for the book industry. Originally founded as a cooperative, it was converted into a GmbH in 1956, transferred to BAG Buchhandler-Abrechnungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG in 2010 and has been an independent division of Buchwert GmbH + Co. KG, Bielefeld, since 2014. With its core service, clearing and central settlement , BAG compresses several million invoices per year into 24 collective accounts for booksellers and publishers , thus making the accounting administrative work easier on both sides.

functionality

The central service of BAG is the bundling of billing and payment transactions between bookstores and publishers. The publishers submit their bills electronically to the BAG, these are collected and compressed into two monthly bills, so that the bookseller only has to pay two per month instead of several hundred individual bills. The booksellers pay the stated collective amount due from the BAG settlement to the BAG. The publisher, in turn, receives its money not from the bookseller, but from the BAG. The advantages of this billing method via the BAG are obvious: instead of countless individual bills, the publisher only has to post 2 collective bills, has correspondingly lower fees for bank account management and also has plannable liquidity, as its invoice claims are always paid on time. The same advantages apply to the bookseller: considerable reduction in the accounting effort, savings in account management fees, because instead of many individual bookings, only 2 collective debits are made; In addition, in addition to the payment conditions such as discounts or currencies granted by the publishers, the booksellers participating in the BAG accounting process generally have 14 days more time to pay their liabilities. The central and indispensable prerequisite for BAG accounting is the so-called BAG number , which is usually identical to the bookselling traffic number, which clearly identifies the participating bookstores and publishers.
