BATTeRS

BATTeRS ( Japanese バ ッ タ ー ズ , Battãzu ) is an acronym for Bisei Asteroid Tracking Telescope for Rapid Survey , a Japanese project for the detection and observation of asteroids and space debris .

The project is affiliated with the Japanese Spaceguard Organization, whose members include the Japanese astronomer Takeshi Urata . As part of the investigations, a total of 265 asteroids were discovered between 1996 and 2010, plus the long-period comet C / 2001 W2 (BATTERS) .

A 100 cm Cassegrain telescope with an 8 megapixel CCD camera at the Bisei Spaceguard Center-BATTeRS ( IAU code 300) is used for observation .
