BC Geographical Names or GeoBC (formerly BC Geographical Names Information System or BCGNIS ) is an online service that integrates geographical information of the Canadian province of British Columbia into a database and makes the geographical information available to governments, businesses and citizens. This British Columbia database is maintained by the Base Mapping and Geomatic Services Branch of the Integrated Land Management Bureau and is owned by the British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations .

The database contains official names and spellings of cities and towns, mountains, rivers, lakes and other geographic locations. The geographical naming decisions are recognized by the Geographical Naming Committee of Canada .

The database contains the following information about

  • "Feature Type" (type of object; city, river, lake, etc.)
  • "Status" (status; official name of the property or unofficial name)
  • "Relative Location" (approximate location description in the form of a short description)
  • "Latitude-Longitude" (geographical position; geographical coordinates)
  • "Date" (date; to which version of the North American date the information relates)
  • "NTS Map" (NTS map; on which map of the National Topographic System of Natural Resources Canada the object is located)

Often the description also contains other information, such as about the history of the object in question.
