Bureau de recherches geologiques et minières

The Bureau de recherches géologiques et minières (abbreviation BRGM , dt. Bureau for Geology and Mining Research ) is the French state reference institute in the field of geosciences for raw materials and geological risks.

It was founded in 1959 as the successor to the Bureau de recherches géologiques et géophysiques (BRGG) . The largest location of the institute (the Center scientifique et technique ) is in Orléans , the official seat in Paris. In 2008 the institute employed 850 people and had a budget of 82 million euros.

Since the "Service de la Carte Géologique" was merged with the BRGM in 1968, the BRGM has been responsible for the geological mapping of France and the publication of the geological maps .
