The SV 1924 Münchenbernsdorf e. V. is a sports club in the small town of Münchenbernsdorf in eastern Thuringia . The association has around 370 members and operates football, handball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, gymnastics, dance and recreational sports. The municipal sports field and the gymnasium are available.
Club history
The sports club 1924 traces its history back to the Spielvereinigung Münchenbernsdorf founded in August 1924. At first she only played football, later athletics, swimming and fistball were added. After the National Socialists came to power in 1934, the workers' sports club and the gymnastics club joined the game association. After the end of the Second World War, all sports clubs in Münchenbernsdorf and in the entire Soviet occupation zone had to be dissolved. Sports competitions were initially only permitted in loosely organized sports communities at district level. Such a sports community was founded on November 4, 1948 in Münchenbernsdorf and was named "Olympia". After the East German sports operations were converted to company sports associations (BSG), the carpet factory based in Münchenbernsdorf took over the sports association and converted it into BSG Progress Münchenbernsdorf. Over the years she set up sports sections for football, handball, athletics, table tennis, bowling, gymnastics and chess. When after the political change of 1989 civil associations were allowed again, BSG members founded the registered association SV 1924 Münchenbernsdorf.
Development of the sport of football
Although several clubs in Münchenbernsdorf had formed soccer teams after the First World War, they did not get above the lower level until 1945. The BSG Progress has played regularly in the fourth and fifth class district class Gera since the 1950s. It was not until 1971 that the first team was promoted to the then third-class district league Gera . With secure midfield positions, the BSG was able to assert itself there for seven years. In the eighth district league year progress was only bottom of the table at the end of the 1978/79 season and had to relegate to the district class. Apart from a one-year rise in 1981/82, the BSG remained in the fourth division until the end of the GDR football game in 1990. The last GDR district class season 1989/90 ended with 14th place.
The BSG Progress Münchenbernsdorf achieved the greatest success in its football history in 1977. By winning the district football cup , the first team qualified for the GDR-wide competition for the FDGB football cup of the 1977/78 season. In the first round, the Münchenbernsdorfer had home rights against the Erfurt district division BSG Umformtechnik Erfurt . After a clear 1: 4 defeat, BSG Progress was eliminated after their first appearance in the GDR soccer cup competition.
The SV 1924 Münchenbernsdorf started in the DFB game operation in the district league Gera. In 1996 he was promoted to the then eight-class district league Thuringia. After an 11th place in 1997, he was relegated back to the district league in 1998 after 14th place. Since the 2014/2015 season, the club has been playing in the Eastern Thuringia regional league.
