The SV Hertha Finsterwalde is a sports club in the southern Brandenburg town of Finsterwalde . It has over 300 members and offers sports such as soccer , bike ball and bowling .

history

Hertha Finsterwalde was founded in 1907 as a workers' sports club. Immediately after the National Socialists came to power in Germany, all sports clubs of the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association were dissolved, including ASV Hertha. In 1945 attempts were made to re-establish the club, and the football, table tennis and bowling departments were created. Due to its past as a workers' sports club, SV Hertha was initially tolerated despite the club ban in the Soviet occupation zone, but in the course of the establishment of company sports associations (BSG) in East Germany, it was transferred to BSG Konsum Finsterwalde in 1949. After the Kjellberg welding technology plant took over the sponsorship , the BSG was renamed "Kjellberg Finsterwalde", which became BSG Motor Finsterwalde Süd after the central sports associations were founded in 1952. At the same time, a new section was added with cycling, and another was founded in 1959 for handball. In 1961 the cycling polo section was founded. In 1982 the company sports community had 690 members and maintained six sports sections. By 1989 the number of members could be increased to 1068. After the political change in 1989, the welding technology plant stopped funding the company sports community, which was converted into the Hertha sports club in 1990 using its historical name.

Development of the sport of football

Up until the turn of the millennium, football in Finsterwalde played in the lower divisions. The BSG Motor Süd rose in 1953 from the fourth-class district class to the Cottbus district league . There she was able to secure relegation until 1964, but then rose again to the district class until 1969. After that, apart from 1978/79, third-rate games were played again for eleven years, at times in competition with BSG Motor Finsterwalde. Between 1981 and 1989 the BSG Motor Süd played below the district league, the last season of the GDR district league Cottbus 1989/90 took place again with the participation of Motor Süd Finsterwalde.

Only in the GDR soccer cup competition did the BSG Kjellberg and Motor Süd attract national attention. But apart from 1950, when Kjellberg reached the second round of the cup, the teams didn't get past the first round:

  • 1950: BSG Breweries Berlin - Kjellberg Finsterwalde 2: 4
Kjellberg Finsterwalde - SG Volkspolizei Berlin 0: 1
  • 1952: Motor Finsterwalde-Süd - Motor Altenburg 0: 5
  • 1958: Motor Finsterwalde-Süd - BSG Motor Dessau 0: 2

By participating in the GDR district league, the DFB game operations began in the Landesliga Süd for SV Hertha . After two years, however, he was relegated to the southern class in 1991/1992. Until 1995, Hertha fought against relegation there, but then succumbed to it and had to go to the Elbe-Elster district league. It was not until the 1998/1999 season that he was promoted to the national class again, but this was followed by immediate relegation. Then the first men's team played with varying successes in the district league. In 2005/06, a second men's team was founded again, which was promoted to the first district class after two years. In 2007, the first men's team again succeeded in advancing to the eight-class Brandenburg state class since 2008. In the season middle, the team reached a place in the lower middle of the table in the 2007/08 season. The 2008/2009 season started with a strong start to the season, and in the end it was enough for a surprising 5th place. For the 2009/2010 season, Hertha was classified in the national team south and there, too, earned fifth place in the table at the end of the season. The following year they played an outstanding first round, after which they were on the strong 4th place in the table. However, injury-related failures of regular employees ensured that the team was only able to achieve a total of ten points in the second half of the season. With a surprising 6: 1 on the last matchday at Viktoria Cottbus, the relegation could still be celebrated. Parallel to the league operation, the team fought their way to the round of 16 in the state cup, with higher-class teams such as Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt and Rot-Weiß Neustadt being thrown out of the cup. In a disappointing 2011/2012 season, Hertha relegated back to the Elbe-Elster district league, although they defended themselves against relegation until the last day of the game. Personnel departures had weakened the team too much and you had to integrate many young players. However, the entry into the district cup final was gratifying, but it was lost. In the first season after relegation, the direct re-promotion was hardly to be thought of despite a good season start. Under the new coaching staff and with a team that was rejuvenated again, they achieved a good 5th place in the table in the end, while the 2nd men's team was relegated to the 2nd district class. In the 2013/14 season, the first team fought for one of the qualifying ranks for the newly founded regional league from the 2014/15 season, which will be composed of the Elbe-Elster, Spreewald and Senftenberg districts. While the first men's team managed to qualify in fifth place and is therefore eligible to play in the Südbrandenburgliga, the second men's team achieved the championship in the second district class and the associated promotion.

For the 2015/16 season, the football departments of SV Hertha Finsterwalde and DJK Finsterwalde formed a syndicate under the name of Sängerstadt Hertha-DJK . This initially only affected the active men's area of both clubs. On July 1, 2016, the two football departments merged to form FC Sängerstadt Finsterwalde . The other sports departments remain in the two parent clubs. There are currently three men's teams, one women's team and eight youth teams in play.

Development of bowling

After German reunification, the bowling friends from almost all other bowling clubs joined forces under the umbrella of the bowling department of Hertha Finsterwalde, because this club provided the team with the highest league license. The first men's team played continuously in the association league, in which they were last runner-up in 2007. In 2008 she had to relegate to the national league. In 2013, when she came second, she was promoted to the association league again. The second men's team played for years at the district level and in the meantime also played a few seasons in the national class. In 2011 she was relegated to the district league. In 2013, she managed to get promoted again as vice district champion, which was fiercely fought until the last match day and was played for the first time in the international game system with 120 litters. The third men's team plays in the 2nd district class. There is also a senior team.
