The tanker BW Rhine in BW's own color scheme

The BW Group holding company , based in Bermuda, brings together several shipping companies under one roof. The listed company operates from Singapore and Oslo.

The entire fleet of all BW shipping companies comprises 372 units. In addition to the majority of different tankers, a number of bulk carriers and offshore vehicles are also operated.

The company was founded in 2003 through the takeover of the Norwegian shipping company Bergesen by the Hong Kong-based shipping company World-Wide Shipping . Bergesen dy ASA was founded in 1935 by Sigval Bergesen and was Norway's largest shipping company with the world's largest fleet of gas tankers until it was taken over. World-Wide Shipping was founded in 1955 by Yue-Kong Pao and in 1979 had the largest shipping fleet in the world with more than 200 ships and a deadweight of more than 20 million tons. After the takeover, both shipping companies were merged in October 2003 under the umbrella of the Bermuda holding company Bergesen Worldwide . In 2005, a reorganization took place in which all parts of the company were given names with the abbreviation “BW” and in April 2007 the BW Group Limited became the group's holding company.
