Babetta 207

The Babetta was a moped sold by the Jawa company in Czechoslovakia and other countries . It was first manufactured in Považská Bystrica and later in Kolárovo , Slovakia.

The Babetta was originally introduced as a lightweight scooter to keep up with the Solex scooter, which was well known around 1960. The first Babetta motor scooters, around 1970, had 23-inch tires, which were soon replaced by smaller 16-inch tires. The Babetta was very notable for its electronic ignition - the first time temporary, contactless ignition was used in a scooter.

The original Babetta 206 was replaced in 1975 by a new model, Babetta 206 B (also called 207). The difference between the two models is that the 206 B had free and full adjustment front and rear, while the 206 had a rigid frame.

The price for such a Babetta was over 1000 marks at the time.

In 1983 the original models were replaced by the new 210 models. These had a completely new motor and an optional double transmission speed.

The maximum speed that the Babetta could achieve with its engine in perfect condition was 50–55 kilometers per hour.

Many Vietnamese guest workers in Czechoslovakia were happy to buy the two-wheeler to take home with them.
