Backplate (diving)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The backplate , more rarely also called the base plate or back plate , is made of plastic, steel or aluminum and is used for diving .

In the recreational diving area , the back plate is usually made of plastic and built into the buoyancy compensator. In technical diving (tec diving) , the metal backplate is bolted to the double device or - rarely - a single compressed air cylinder . The float , the wing bladder , is attached between the backplate and bottles and screwed together.

The weight system can either be screwed in as a bag with shot lead in the back fold or as a V-Weight between the bottles and the wing bladder.

The shoulder and waist straps, also known as harness , are also attached to this back plate. The backplate has special slots through which the straps are threaded. Usually it offers additional functional holes for attaching additional equipment.
