Bad Senkelteich is a mud bath in the Valdorf district of the East Westphalian town of Vlotho in the northeast of North Rhine-Westphalia . The name of the bath comes from the pond of the same name in this place.

The mud bath, which was formerly a farmer's bath, has been a state-approved climatic health resort with therapeutic products since 1978. The pond with a rich peat bog, created by a sinkhole , is located in a funnel-shaped basin in which fresh water and sulfur springs rise. Bad Senkelteich has had an approximately four-hectare publicly accessible spa park since 1982, which extends along the Linnenbeeke to the neighboring Bad Seebruch .

The health resort is located in the hilly Lippe region between the Teutoburg Forest and the Porta Westfalica breakthrough in the Weser .

history

Bad Senkelteich was founded in 1866 as a so-called Bauernbad by the Vlotho merchants Karl Hartwig and Wilhelm Grube. In 1874 the mud bath was taken over by August Grossmann for 25,800 Reichsmarks and has been owned by the Grossmann family ever since.

Today, the so-called "Moorland" is located in Bad Senkelteich, a health clinic with a hotel. The facility is one of the last historical moor spa in Germany and is u. a. specializes in rheumatological rehabilitation. The bog tubs are still filled by hand in the traditional way with the bog dug out of the sinkhole pond .
