The Badeborn black cartilage cherry , also Badeborn dark brown cartilage or Farnstädter black , is a brown variety of sweet cherries belonging to the cartilage cherries .

origin

The variety was discovered as a chance seedling in Badeborn in the second half of the 19th century and was first distributed in the Harz region by the Teickner tree nursery in Gernrode since 1912 .

fruit

The fruit is medium to large and conical-heart-shaped to oval-round. The tough skin is black-red, with light dashed lines when half-ripe. The flesh is medium to dark red, firm and juicy. The taste is very aromatic and sweet. It has a medium burst resistance and bursts preferentially on the stamp side and in the handle pit. The stone is medium in size, the length can vary considerably from year to year. The stem is short, about 3 cm, thick and green with a medium-sized stem attachment. It ripens in the 4th to 6th cherry week .

The tree grows medium to very strong, depending on the soil conditions, with sloping, upright guide branches. The crown is broad to spherical. The tree is self-sterile and needs a fertilization partner. It flowers mid-early, at the beginning of flowering together with a lot of (slightly reddish) leaves.
